Species: Diapherodes gigantea (No PSG).
Common Name: None
Size: Maximum: Female, 16cm.
Male, 11cm.
Breeding: Sexual
Eggs: These are dropped to the floor. As nymphs,
they can be difficult to rear (you can have a high mortality
rate), so keep conditions as near perfect as possible (well
ventilated, yet semi-humid). Adult females will drop 1 or
2 ova per day.
Food: Eucalyptus, will accept bramble.
Humidity: Spray once or twice a week.
Comments: These are a lovely species to keep.
If you can get them past nymph stage, they are easy to rear and
docile to handle. The females have a nice shiny bright
green colour and males are generally light brown. Males
also have wings as adults, but I have found them un-willing to
fly, but they will raise them readily if threatened, showing a
pair of mid-red wings. Adult females have the ability to
cling like super glue when they do not want to be moved.
