Praying Mantis Kung Fu is a style of Kung Fu based upon the Praying Mantis. It was invented in China by a man named Wang Lang. The story goes that he saw a Praying Mantis in combat with a much larger insect. The Praying Mantis easily killed the other insect and began eating it. Wang Lang was impressed with the way the Mantis jumped in and out of action and use its forearms to grapple its prey. He captured the insect and began to study its combat methods. He combined these methods with the footwork of the monkey and created what is now known as Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.
